Political Parties

The two major political parties, the Democratic and Republican parties, dominate the electoral process. Both major political parties are organized to win elections, control government, and influence government policies. Each major political party seeks to define itself in a way that wins majority support while remaining commited to its core principles. By the way, the Democratic Party is represented by a donkey and the Republican Party is represented by an elephant.

You can also vote as an “independent,” which means you don’t belong to any particular party, but just vote for the person you think will do the best job, no matter which party they may belong to.
