Just Announced: Mimi and Papa's Everyday Amazing Almanac received the 2012 SEAL OF EXCELLENCE AWARD from Creative Child Magazine in the Kids Books category. Mimi & Papa's Everyday Amazing Almanac is a 365-day daily and seasonal almanac for kids 7-14 that can be used for any year. This book includes everything from flabbergasting facts, great doses of drama, plenty of humor and loads of charm. Mimi & Papa's Everyday Amazing Almanac consists of trivia, history, geography, math, crafts, activities, riddles, recipes, stories from the past, old-time cures, and so much more! Make every day an AMAZING almanac day! If you are familiar with the Real Kids! Real Places! mysteries series, then you know that Mimi and Papa are reoccurring characters. Papa is the cowboy pilot, and Mimi is a jet-setting mystery writer. In this almanac, they are the voices of folksy wisdom. If readers don't already know them from the mystery series, they will still find a welcome friend in the writer/researcher Mimi who loves sharing wild and crazy facts that just happen to be educational and true. And kids adore Papa, who always has something to say about everything! Each month begins with a poem. Each day includes a fact and a funny and hilarious (and sometimes even educational!) bonus comment from Mimi and Papa. Click HERE to view an interview with author Carole Marsh.

Covering history, healthy living, and the origins of holidays, the almanac will appeal to elementary-age children as well as their parents and grandparents, particularly those familiar with farm life or those living in middle America, where many historical events and activities mentioned originated. Suggested activities include craft projects, recipes, and challenges to try new things. Along with fun trivia tidbits, needed advice and warnings about fire safety and other potential dangers are included. Items about the origins of religious holidays and spiritual beliefs range from Christian saints to Jewish holidays to Native American leaders. Overall, the entries are likely to spark ideas for vacations, from the list of ten American sites to see; inspire a new hobby such as gardening, which is covered extensively each month; generate ideas for school projects; and even encourage children and adults alike to invent new trivia-based games using the information provided. Adults nostalgic for the “good old days” will welcome suggestions to take the family to a state fair, cook chuck wagon stew, or make an old-fashioned pomander as a holiday decoration.
