Award-winning Children’s Author Pays Visit to Greenville, NC Students and Meets Fans at Barnes & Noble Bookstore

January 25, 2012

Winterville, NC - Beloved author Carole Marsh paid a visit to Winterville, North Carolina this week, speaking at a local elementary school before signing books at Greenville’s Barnes & Noble Bookstore. Marsh is best known for creating the 48-book children’s mystery series, Real Kids! Real Places!, a favorite with elementary and middle school teachers because of the books’ thrilling stories and educational contents.

On Tuesday, January 24, the students and teachers at Winterville Elementary School greeted Marsh warmly after they had waited 3 months in anticipation of her visit. Back in November 2011, the elementary school had played a school-wide game of “Guess Which Famous Author is Coming to Visit?” When it was unveiled that Carole Marsh would be their guest of honor in January, the students were delighted. “The whole school was so welcoming to me,” the veteran author declares. “And I never get tired of meeting those sweet, smart kids!”

That same evening Marsh had fans lined up in Greenville’s Barnes & Noble bookstore, waiting patiently for a quick chat and autograph from the author. Many children took pictures and asked questions about Christina and Grant, Marsh’s real-life grandchildren and the stars of her Real Kids! Real Places! series. One young fan was so excited that she asked Marsh to give her an autograph, and then produced an e-reader for the author to sign. After checking with the child's mother, Marsh happily signed the suede cover, declaring it her first-ever "Nook" autograph.

Tuesday’s visit was more than just fun for the author; it was a homecoming. Marsh started her writing career more than 30 years ago while living in Bath, North Carolina. After writing and self-publishing her first educational mystery in 1979, Marsh made her first “author visit” to a Greenville elementary school. Marsh now resides in Georgia where she serves as CEO for Gallopade International, a family-owned publishing company that specializes in children’s books and educational materials.

She also continues to write, producing curriculum materials for schools, her famous mysteries, and many other books. One of her most popular novels, Mary America, First Girl President of the United States, was recently awarded the 2012 Teacher’s Choice Award for the Family from Learning Magazine, and was named a finalist in last year’s Book of the Year Awards from ForeWord Magazine.
