Mary America, by Carole Marsh, Wins 2012 Teacher’s Choice Award for the Family
The votes are in! Mary America, First Girl President of the United States by beloved children’s author Carole Marsh has been selected for the 2012 Teacher’s Choice Award for the Family from Learning Magazine. The Teacher’s Choice Awards rely on panels of real teachers to review educational products
and children’s books in their classrooms. Teachers make their evaluations and submit detailed
comments, which are available a few weeks after the winners are announced.
Mary America, First Girl President of the United States, recommended for ages 7-12, is the story of a twelve-year-old girl who becomes
president through a fluke in the law. Mary, who is an orphan, moves into the
White House with her grandfather, brother, aunt and baby cousin to take on all
the duties of the commander-in-chief with all the fun of a kid. Though she
already has an exceptionally high IQ, she is always ready to learn about
everything: democracy, finances, responsibility, perseverance, family and
friendship – all while keeping up with her homework, of course.
The author, Carole Marsh, was thrilled to hear that Mary America, last year’s literary darling, was to be honored with the Teacher’s Choice Award. Like all of Marsh’s books, Mary has a mission: to entertain and educate young readers. Marsh is renowned for
creating nine educational mystery series, including the award-winning Real Kids! Real Places! series, and is also the author of the critically-acclaimed history series, the Student’s Civil War, as well as the recent “tween” hit, WHEN KIDS TAKE OVER NASA, among many other cherished kids’ books, all of which she publishes through her own publishing house, Gallopade
International.
