New Mount Vernon Mystery Gives History Lesson
(MOUNT VERNON, VA)—Comb your wig, brush your wooden teeth and get ready for your trip to historic
Mount Vernon in award-winning author Carole Marsh’s The Mystery at Mount Vernon. This mystery gives young readers a different look at history and the Father of
Our Country, George Washington.
The Mystery at Mount Vernon is the perfect combination of history and mystery. Young readers visit the
Mansion House Farm, Cemetery, and Forest Trail as well as many other sites at
Mount Vernon while learning about Colonial America, Georgia Washington and his
home. This history lesson is all wrapped up in a mysterious scavenger hunt involving
shady characters and wooden teeth.
“My favorite part about the Real Kids! Real Places! series is being able to intertwine my love of history in an exciting mystery
adventure,” says author Carole Marsh. “This is a great way I can teach kids about one of our most influential American
heroes, George Washington.”
Carole Marsh Mysteries encompass 72 books in nine distinct series. The Mystery at Mount Vernon is the 32nd book in the Real Kids! Real Places! series, also known as America’s National Mystery Book Series, and publishes January 25, 2010. This series,
which won Learning Magazine’s Teacher’s Choice Award, features real children visiting real places across the United
States. All Carole Marsh Mysteries incorporate unique features that expand
their educational value, including SAT words, an online book club and fun
activities, along with having assigned Accelerated Reader quizzes, Lexile
measures and Fountas & Pinnell Guided Reading levels.
Carole Marsh is the national spokesperson of 2010: Year of the Children’s Mystery Book and has been named Georgia Author of the Year for Middle Readers.
